This spring, the LA Chess Social steps into an entirely new arena!
On Friday, April 18th, we’re bringing chess to Sid the Cat’s brand new venue and auditorium, a world-class event space that has only just opened its doors! This is not a bar takeover or a cozy back room. This is a purpose-built, top-tier creative space, and we’re filling it wall to wall with chess, music, and people.
The night begins with our Spring Championship Tournament, an optional, competitive event, running from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Players who enter will battle it out for cash prizes, surrounded by the energy of a venue that feels more like a cultural landmark than a chess hall.
Tournament format details will be announced soon, but expect something thoughtfully designed, fair, and fun, whether you’re sharp and serious or just ready to test yourself.
While the tournament is underway, a full live concert will be happening simultaneously in the auditorium, creating a rare split-screen experience: focused games in the main space, immersive sound and performance just steps away. Chess on one side. Music on the other. A shared pulse running through both.
At 8:00 PM, the boards loosen up and the night opens wide. The regular LA Chess Social begins, welcoming everyone. If you played in the tournament, the social becomes your victory lap. If competition isn’t your thing, simply arrive at 8 and jump straight into the party! Casual games, conversation, movement between spaces, and that unmistakable Chess Social atmosphere, now scaled up and turned loose!
This is a championship night held in one of the coolest new venues in the city, with free and convenient parking, room to breathe, and room to play. It’s a celebration of chess as culture, not just competition.
