The April Chess Social approaches! 

     Calling all chess enthusiasts in Los Angeles to join us for a thrilling evening of chess! Whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner, this event is open to all levels of chess proficiency. Meet fellow chess lovers, challenge yourself, and enjoy some live music!

     Gather with us for an exciting game night filled with intense matches, friendly camaraderie, and a chance to improve your chess abilities. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of our social club and immerse yourself in the world of chess education and strategic gameplay. Join us for a fun-filled evening of board games and socializing. 

     We will be taking over the newly remodeled Griffins of Kinsale with oodles of chess, specially curated live music, and libations! We have booked seven spectacular live music acts for us to enjoy!  Boards and clocks are provided. Parking at this location is convenient and free!

    We are doing this event in collaboration with the South Pasadena Eclectic Music Festival! This free event will be taking place all around our venue! There will be several blocks shut down to make room for the 12 stages, over sixty bands, food, art, and drinks! The Chess Social will be opening our doors early to festival attendees at 5pm (though our official start time is 8pm).

Vernon West 6pm-7pm

Vernon West is an indie rock artist from Boston whose fresh and authentic voice is complimented by his dedication to creating soulful and honest music. Known for his songwriting chops and musical versatility, Vernon has performed frequently on both coasts, garnering him a unique approach to his alternative jazz rock style. Vernon’s ability to gently yet urgently evoke our emotions while maintaining an overall hopeful outlook makes his set one you must experience yourself.


Happy’s Birthday 7pm-8pm

Happy’s Birthday has carved out a unique space in the local music community by providing theatrical performances with whimsical and vivid storytelling. Their unique sound combines elements of folk and indie with the bite of post-hardcore and experimental rock to create a colorful and zany array of songs. If you love those monstrous scores that play during video game boss battles then put on your party hat and go check out Happy’s Birthday! 


Sugar Rum Tantrum 8pm-9pm

Melinda West 'takes something weird and makes it cool'. By slamming together European street accordion and blending it with her soulful voice, Melinda creates a passionate, fiery elixir of live music. 

Bringing in the rambunctious sounds of Amy Winehouse, Gogol Bordello, and other spicy-soul-folk influences, Melinda is a seamstress of melodies, who improvises keys, accordion, or guitar over her intense yet emotive songs 


Mitch Campbell 9pm-10pm

As a performer and organizer, Mitchel has been cultivating quite the following within the local music scene. With a background in jazz, Mitchel blends styles of jazz, funk, rnb, and pop to create unique songs using his looper, keyboard, and voice. Originally from Boston, Mitchel has been a bandleader for years before moving to California to pursue his own musical career. With the recent release of his album 'Jawdropper' under the moniker Olleho, there is much to be seen and heard from this powerhouse player.


Daydream Time Machine 10pm-11pm

Daydream Time Machine is a band based out of Pomona, California, and have been transmitting their psychedelic reverberations since 2015. Inspired by life and its swinging pendulum of highs and lows, Daydream encapsulates past, present and future reflections of love, growth and self-destruction one sonic dream at a time. 


Brown Chair 11pm-12am

Brown Chair is a new age folk punk band who dabbles in the blues. The clashing writing styles of the lead singer and lead guitarist bring about a dichotomy akin to a cup of contentious poured over warm honey.
